Annual
tank emptying is
important
|
DOES A SEPTIC TANK NEED TO BE EMPTIED?
It
is most important that a septic tank is emptied at least once a
year.
As
detailed in The Operation of
a Septic Tank, solids build up in the base
of a septic tank system. If these solids are not removed each year then
they will build up in volume and cause the following to
occur:-
1/.
An increase in the percentage of solids leaving the tank and entering
the soakaway system
2/.
A reduced volume in the main septic tank chamber reducing the capacity
for gravity to pull solids to the tank base.
By
not annually de-sludging a septic tank you are building up
potential problems for the soakaway system in the future.
